How Weak Institutions Affect Women the Worst<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n

According to the<\/span> Encyclopedia of Governance<\/span><\/a>, a weak institution is an institution in decline. In recent years, communities have been wrought with fear, terror, and violence as a result of factors such as poverty, gender inequality, and weak institutions. Women, in particular, are subject to unfair and unfavorable treatment at the hands of their establishments.  Here is some information on how weak institutions affect women the worst: <\/span><\/p>\n

The Impact On Women <\/strong><\/h2>\n

According to Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden <\/span>Margot Wallstrom<\/span><\/a>, social challenges concerning the provision of basic services for girls, such as lack of proper health care and poor access to education, are correlated to issues of peace, security, human rights, humanitarian assistance, and development. Furthermore, the United Nations notes that entire communities suffer when women are stifled, and this suffering causes conflict. For example, more than 2 million people in the Sahel, Africa are displaced and living in crowded facilities with limited access to basic services. Women and girls are affected most harshly by this crisis, as they are often used as suicide bombers and are thus sexually exploited or ostracized by their communities after being released by armed groups. While the Sahel needs international support, it is also vital that women across the region are involved in the advocacy for change, working as agents of change in Sahel\u2019s progression toward a strong institution. However, they are still unable to fully participate due to conflicts such as climate change, a rise in terrorism, and the use of sexual violence by terrorist groups. <\/span><\/p>\n

What We Can Do <\/strong><\/h2>\n

We must work to reduce the cost women pay as a result of weak institutions. For example, in South Sudan, the impact of the Boko Haram terrorist group has led to insecurity, the loss of family members, and the increased use of female suicide bombers. However, women leaders in this area have been an effective voice against gender inequality and attacks on women\u2019s rights that are integral to this group\u2019s strategy, emphasizing the importance of including women in decision-making. Bineta Diop (African Union Special Envoy on Women, Peace, and Security) noted that resources such as the 2014 African Union Peace and Security strategy and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) can help support the efforts in countries with weak institutions. However, more tools are necessary. The interaction community must contribute more to projects relating to the development of these locations. Prevention is the key to stronger establishments, and this begins with providing women and girls with the services they need. No women should feel as if they are obligated to say yes to early marriage, associate with extremist groups, or live a life of poverty. Instead, they must be leaders in their communities, paving the way for social change. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Need For Provision <\/strong><\/h2>\n

An institution\u2019s job is to provide adequately for the needs of its community. However, many institutions fail to properly take care of those under their responsibility, particularly due to issues such as discrimination. Establishments must ensure that they are providing for the daily necessities of their people if they wish to be successful all around. They should not dole them out only to the privileged but to everyone, as we all are capable of achieving great things with the proper tools.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
